Effective May 1, 2021, Utah is moving to a one year reporting cycle and has changed its CLE requirement to be 12 credits per year including at least 1 Ethics and 1 Professionalism. Previously, Utah attorneys had a two year reporting cycle that consisted of 24 credits including 2 Ethics and 1 Professionalism.
Utah attorneys with a compliance reporting period of July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2021 will start the one-year compliance cycle on July 1, 2021 for the 2021-2022 reporting year. Utah attorneys with a compliance reporting period of July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2022 will still complete 24 credit hours and then will start the one year compliance cycle on July 1, 2022, for the 2022-2023 reporting year.
In addition, Utah has added a new format called Verified E-CLE which counts as a Live format.
The state has also added a paralegal requirement and adjusted their speaking, writing, etc. credit maximums to reflect the new one year cycle.
Utah attorneys can complete half of their CLE requirement through Lawline’s catalog of over 100 Utah accredited courses.
Note: There is a temporary rule change due to the COVID-19 that allows Utah attorneys to complete their full requirement via On Demand courses for the 2019-2021 cycle.
