Mental Illness Awareness Week runs October 4-10, closing with World Mental Health Day on the 10th. For the legal profession, the week is a useful prompt to talk plainly about something attorneys have historically kept to themselves. Lawyers experience depression, anxiety, and burnout at rates well above the general population, and the professional culture that rewards endurance has long made it harder to say so out loud.

That is starting to change. More firms, bar associations, and individual attorneys are treating mental health as part of professional competence rather than a private matter to manage after hours. The two courses below approach that conversation from different directions: one looks at the structures around your work, the other looks at what is happening inside your head while you do it.

## Finding Happiness as a Great Lawyer: Habits, Boundaries, and the Business Behind Well-Being

![blog\_Jordan\_Ostroff](https://blog.lawline.com/hs-fs/hubfs/blog_Jordan_Ostroff.png?width=200&height=200&name=blog_Jordan_Ostroff.png)Many attorneys assume that chronic stress and overwhelm are simply the cost of being good at the job.
In this course, [Jordan Ostroff](https://www.lawline.com/lawyer/jordan-ostroff) of Driven Law challenges that assumption directly. His premise is that burnout often has less to do with a lack of skill or resilience and more to do with systems, habits, and business structures that were never intentionally designed in the first place. When every client call is urgent, every deadline is a surprise, and every task lands on your desk, exhaustion is not a personal failing. It is a predictable outcome.

Drawing on habit science, boundary-setting principles, and practical law firm operations, Ostroff gives attorneys a repeatable framework for building a practice that is easier to live inside. Attorneys will learn to identify the core drivers of burnout and dissatisfaction, build habits that support clarity and consistency, set professional boundaries with clients that reduce emergencies and make the work more predictable, and put delegation and business systems in place that support long-term sustainability. The course closes with a step-by-step plan for improving both personal well-being and practice management, which makes it especially useful for solo and small-firm attorneys who carry the operational load themselves.

## Anxiety Is Not the Enemy: Working with Stress, Uncertainty, and the Lawyer Brain

![blog\_Karen\_Munoz](https://blog.lawline.com/hs-fs/hubfs/blog_Karen_Munoz.png?width=200&height=200&name=blog_Karen_Munoz.png)Attorneys are trained to anticipate risk, spot problems before they surface, and prepare for the worst-case scenario. Those instincts are exactly what make someone a good advocate. They are also, left unchecked, a reliable recipe for chronic worry. [Karen Munoz](https://www.lawline.com/lawyer/karen-munoz) of Roaring Grace starts from a reframe that many lawyers will find surprising: anxiety is not a weakness to eliminate. It is a natural human response, and it often carries useful information about what needs attention.

The goal, then, is not to silence anxiety but to learn to tell the difference between productive concern and the kind of anxiety-driven thinking that distorts judgment. Munoz names the patterns that show up again and again in legal practice, including catastrophizing, perfectionism, over-responsibility, and avoidance, and helps attorneys recognize how those patterns play out in their daily work. She also makes the professional case clearly: unmanaged anxiety can affect judgment, client communication, and representation, which places mental health squarely within the scope of ethical competence. Attorneys leave with practical mindfulness and self-regulation techniques they can use in the moment, whether that moment is a hearing, a hard client conversation, or a sleepless night before a deadline.

## Support Is Available

These courses offer tools and perspective, but they are not a substitute for care. If you are struggling, every state has a lawyer assistance program that offers support designed specifically for attorneys, judges, and law students. You can find yours through the [ABA's directory of lawyer assistance programs](https://www.americanbar.org/groups/lawyer_assistance/resources/lap_programs_by_state/). If you are in crisis, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at any time.

## Watch Any Course for Free

Talking openly about mental health is one of the most meaningful shifts happening in the legal profession right now, and it gets easier when attorneys have practical language and tools to work with. These two courses offer both: a clearer view of the systems that wear attorneys down, and a more honest relationship with the anxiety that so often comes with the job.
